Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does Lansinoh guarantee its products?

Some products have a warranty, but many are personal care items and cannot be returned once opened.

If the product is defective, Lansinoh will replace the defective portion or repair the item. If you are dissatisfied, we will work with you to solve the problem, but we do not offer refunds. Please note that every woman has different pumping and breastfeeding experiences, so we cannot guarantee success or the amount of breastmilk you will produce by using any of our products.

  • How do I contact you with breastfeeding or pumping questions?

Visit our ‘Ask Our Healthcare Professional’ page to ask your question.

  • Why do mums get engorged?

At around the third day postpartum mum’s breasts may swell (engorgement); but luckily this is a temporary condition. Breastfeeding frequently during this period is the best way to alleviate engorgement, it can sometimes be challenging though as your baby may have trouble latching on properly to engorged breasts. Try to perservere with it and our Latch Assist can help drawing out the nipple if needed.

  • Are Lansinoh® mOmma® Bottles BPA-free and BPS-free?

Yes, the Lansinoh® mOmma® bottles and NaturalWave™ Teats are both BPA and BPS free. The bottles are made of polypropylene plastic which is also chemical-free and additive-free.

  • What is BPA and BPS and why should I choose a bottle which does not contain these?

Because safety is a top priority for Lansinoh we have taken proactive measures to ensure the Lansinoh® mOmma® Bottles and Teats are both BPA and BPS FREE.

BPA or bisphenol-A is a chemical used primarily in the production of polycarbonate plastics and acts as an estrogen imposter, being widely known as a hormone disrupter. Studies have linked BPA to cancer, depression, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and a number of other ailments. BPA can be especially dangerous in pregnancy, infancy and childhood – so much so that many governments around the world have banned BPA in the production of baby bottles and other products.

BPS or bisphenol S is an alternative to BPA used by some manufacturers as a plasticiser to replace BPA.  BPS is also a hormone disrupter and is considered to be equally unsafe, however this is currently allowed for the production of baby bottles and similar products.

  • What are the Lansinoh mOmma Bottles and NaturalWave® teats made of?

The bottle, collar and cover are made of polypropylene (PP) plastic which is chemical-free, additive free as well as BPA and BPS free. The NaturalWave® Teats are made of 100% silicone, which is also BPA and BPS free.

  • What makes the Lansinoh® mOmma® bottle different from other bottles?

The Lansinoh® mOmma® bottle is part of the new Lansinoh Pump-Store-Feed solution, enabling mums to express, store and feed using the same bottle. The bottle is compatible with Lansinoh’s 3 breast pumps: Manual Breast Pump, Single Electric Breast Pump and 2in1 Electric Breast Pump. For convenience, the bottle is compatible with the NaturalWave™ Teat, which was specially designed to help mums switch easily between breast and bottle with the reassurance that the baby will go back to the breast when they are back together. Mums can also use the bottle to store their breastmilk. The wide-neck bottles are especially easy to clean. They also come with the NaturalWave™ Teat which promotes the baby’s ‘wave-like’ tongue movement for natural oral development, enabling a seamless transition between breast and bottle.

  • What is the Air Ventilation System® (AVS)?

The Air Ventilation System® reduces the intake of air which lessens gas and the symptoms commonly associated with colic and fussiness.

  • How many flow rates do the NaturalWave® Teats come in?

The Lansinoh® mOmma® NaturalWave® Teats come in slow, medium and fast flow depending on your baby’s needs. Babies’ flow preferences often have to do with the way they feed at the breast. We know all babies and their preferences are different, so we offer three choices because one flow type does not work for all babies.

  • I have slow, medium and fast teats – is there a way to tell them apart?

On the bottom rim of the teat, the slow-flow teat reads “Size 2S”, the medium-flow reads “Size 3M” and the fast-flow reads “Size 4L”.

  • Are Lansinoh® mOmma® Bottles & Teats dishwasher safe?

Lansinoh® mOmma® bottles and NaturalWave™ Teats can be washed in the top shelf of a dishwasher. However for longer life of the NaturalWave™ Teat, we would recommend gentle hand washing.

  • Can I use a teat brush to clean the teat?

You can use a teat brush to clean the NaturalWave™ Teat if necessary – it is important to be gentle and not poke the brush through the hole; it is very small and this can compromise the silicone. You can also soak teats in warm soapy water, rinse and air dry, or place in top rack of the dishwasher.

  • Can I sterilise Lansinoh® mOmma® bottles and teats in boiling water?

The Lansinoh® mOmma® Bottles and NaturalWave™ Teats can be sterilised by boiling in water for five minutes. Please be sure that there is enough water in the pan and that the different parts are floating and not touching the bottom or the sides of the pan as this could cause them to melt.

  • When heating in a microwave should the top with the teat be screwed on?

We DO NOT recommend heating breastmilk or any liquid for a baby or toddler in a microwave because the microwave can create hot spots and damage breastmilk nutrients. We do NOT recommend heating the bottle in the Microwave in any form.

  • Do you only have a wide neck teat?

The NaturalWave™® Teat is a wide neck teat. It enables baby to have a wide latch similar to how a baby would latch on to the breast with a wide open mouth.

  • Can the Lansinoh® mOmma® NaturalWave® Teat be used with other bottles?

The Lansinoh® mOmma® NaturalWave® Teat is designed for Lansinoh® mOmma® bottles and will not fit on other wide-sized bottles. We do not recommend using our nipple with any other bottle because we have not done testing on other company’s bottles with our teat.

  • How often should I replace the NaturalWave® Teat?

We suggest inspecting the teat for wear/tear daily, and recommend changing the teat every 7 weeks. If you notice the silicone is torn or compromised in any other way, we recommend discarding it. We also recommend not leaving the teat in direct sunlight, heat or leaving in disinfectant (“sterilizing solution”) for longer than recommended per the instructions as this may weaken the teat.

  • Where can I buy the Lansinoh® mOmma® Bottle with NaturalWave® Teat?

The Lansinoh® mOmma® Bottles and Teats are currently available both in store and online at Mothercare, BabiesRUs, John Lewis and Amazon.

  • When should I introduce a bottle?

Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for the first six months of baby’s life and in combination with other foods up to the age of two. It is recommended that you get breastfeeding well established in the first six weeks and after that you consider introducing a bottle to feed your expressed breastmilk.

  • Are the Lansinoh® mOmma® Bottles compatible with the rest of the Lansinoh range?

All 3 of our bottles are compatible with our manual and electric breast pumps, enabling you to express, then store your breastmilk using the sealing disc provided and feed baby simply by attaching the NaturalWave™ Teat to the same bottle.

  • Is the Lansinoh® Manual Breast Pump dishwasher safe?

All of the parts in the Lansinoh® Manual Breast Pump are dishwasher safe. To prevent loss and extend their usefulness, we recommend hand washing the white valve, silicone diaphragm stem and the ComfortFit™ breast cushions.

  • Can I sterilise the manual breast pump parts in boiling water?

You can sterilise the manual breast pump by boiling the parts in water for ten minutes. Please make sure you have a large enough pot and enough water so all parts float freely and do not come in contact with the pot.

  • Is the Lansinoh® Manual Breast Pump BPA-free and BPS-free?

Yes, the Lansinoh® Manual Breast Pump is both BPA and BPS free. The bottles are made of polypropylene plastic which is also chemical-free and additive-free.

  • What is BPA and BPS and why should I choose breastfeeding products which do not contain these?

Because safety is a top priority for Lansinoh we have taken proactive measures to ensure the Lansinoh® Manual Breast Pump is both BPA and BPS FREE.

  • What is the Lansinoh® Manual Breast Pump made of?

The Manual Breast Pump parts are made of Polypropylene, Silicone, Polyethylene and SEPS.

  • Can I pump from the Lansinoh® Manual Breast Pump directly into Lansinoh® Breastmilk Storage Bags?

Because the Lansinoh® Breastmilk Storage Bags have a double zipper closure, they will not fit directly on either the Manual or Electric breast pumps. You can however express directly into the bottle and then either transfer the breastmilk into a Breastmilk storage bag or use the sealing disc provided with the Manual Breast Pump to seal the container for storing.

  • I need a larger size breast cushion – is there one available for the Lansinoh® Manual Breast Pump?

Yes, the Lansinoh Manual Breast Pump comes with a standard size breast cushion, however if you require a larger size, please contact our Customer Service team at info@lansinoh.co.uk or call us at 0113 205 4201 and we will be able to help provide one.

  • What is the suction strength of the Lansinoh® Manual Breast Pump?

The Lansinoh® Manual Breast Pump is designed not to exceed 250mmhg. The Easy-Express handle enables you to adjust the suction strength according to your comfort.

  • Is there a warranty on the Lansinoh® Manual Breast Pump?

At Lansinoh we strive to provide the highest quality products available. If you experience any issue or product defect please contact our Customer Service team at info@lansinoh.co.uk or call us at 0113 205 4201 and we will work with you to resolve the issue.

  • Which settings can I customise when using the Lansinoh® 2in1 Electric Breast Pump?

The Lansinoh® 2in1 Electric Breast Pump was designed to mimic the baby’s natural feeding pattern and comes with two phases: ‘let-down’ which stimulates the milk flow through quick and short suction and ‘expression’ which maximises milk flow through longer, deeper suction. The ‘phase’ toggle button enables you to make an easy transition between the two phases. In ‘expression’ phase, you also have a choice between 3 different pumping styles which you can further tailor for comfort by selecting one of eight different suction strength levels.

  • Can I return to the let-down/stimulation phase once I am in the expression phase?

Yes, you can easily switch between the 2 phases using the ‘phase’ toggle button. When switched on, the 2in1 Electric Breast Pump will start in ‘let-down’ phase which lasts for 2 minutes, at which point it will automatically switch to the ‘expression’ phase. If you achieve let-down prior to the 2 minute automatic switchover, you can push the ‘phase’ toggle button and you will go into the expression phase. Similarly, if you wish to return to the faster ‘let-down’ phase during your pumping session, you can push the ‘phase’ toggle button and the pump will switch back into the ‘let-down’ phase.

  • What cycle and suction settings will the pump go to once the let-down phase has ended?

The ‘let-down’ phase lasts for two minutes, unless mum decides to switch to ‘expression’ phase prior to this by using the ‘phase’ toggle button. Once the pump has switched to the second phase – ‘expression’, the pump will be at the following settings: Pumping Style – 2 leaves; and suction setting – level 3. Mum can then select her preferred pumping style and increase or decrease the suction level.

  • How many times does the Lansinoh® 2in1 Electric Breast Pump cycle?

The pump cycles 87-125 times/min in the stimulation phase and 37-95 times/min in the Expression phase.

  • What is the suction range of the Lansinoh® 2in1 Breast Pump?

The pump ranges from 55-140 mmHG in the stimulation mode and 80-220 mmHG in 1 second in the expression mode. There are 8 suction settings and 3 pumping styles a mum can choose from to maximise her comfort and efficiency.

  • Is there an ideal setting for maximum milk flow using the Lansinoh® 2in1 Electric Breast Pump?

Because every woman is different and mums respond differently to breast pumps, there is no ideal setting. However, we have designed the 2in1 Electric Breast Pump to mimic baby’s natural feeding pattern and have included optimum pumping settings to ensure your comfort and maximise milk production. We encourage mums to try the 3 pumping styles in order to find the best suited for them and use the + and – buttons to find the most comfortable setting.

  • What do the 1 leaf, 2 leaves, 3 leaves on the Style setting mean?

There are three different pumping styles mums can choose from to maximise their comfort and efficiency in extracting milk. These different styles are denoted by one, two and three leaves on the circular mode button. Every mum is different, so we recommend that you try each of the pumping style modes to determine which one works best and is most comfortable for you.

  • Are the Lansinoh® 2in1 Breast Pump parts dishwasher safe? Can I use a microwave steam bag to clean?

Please Note: Tubing and tubing Y connector or white pump connector should never be washed or sterilised.

All parts, excluding the tubing, y connector, and pump connector are dishwasher safe though we highly recommend gently hand washing the white valves and diaphragms as they are delicate and can affect the performance of the pump if damaged or torn with vigorous washing or harsh detergents. All parts except for the tubing, tubing Y connector, white pump connector and breast cushions can be steam-sterilized in a microwave bag according to the manufactures directions for use.

Please ensure all pump parts are completely dry prior to use as performance may be affected.

  • Can I use other pump brand replacement parts with the Lansinoh® 2in1 Double Electric Breast Pump?

The components of the Lansinoh® 2in1 Double Electric Breast Pump have been specifically developed for our pump to achieve the highest levels of quality and effectiveness. We do not recommend using another pump’s replacement parts as this might impact performance. Also, using another pump’s parts with our pump would void your warranty.

  • Can I use parts from the previous models of Lansinoh Double Electric Breast Pumps?

No, the parts are not interchangeable between the Affinity Pro Double Electric Breast Pump and the 2in1 Electric Breast Pump.

  • How is the new 2in1 Electric Breast Pump different from the Affinity Pro™ Double Electric Breast?

The 2in1 Electric Breast Pump includes our new wide neck bottles and is part of our new pump-store-feed solution, enabling parents to use the same bottle to express, then store the breastmilk using the sealing disc provided and feed baby simply by attaching the NaturalWave™ Teat to the bottle.

  • Does the 2in1 Electric Breast Pump work with batteries?

Yes, you can use 6 AA batteries (not included in the pack) to power the pump, or the AC Adapter (included in the pack). We recommend using alkaline batteries only and do not recommend using rechargeable batteries. Please replace all batteries at the same time, do not mix old and new batteries. If batteries are in the pump, but your AC adaptor is in use, the pump will use the AC adaptor to power the pump.

  • How long will the pump work with a new set of batteries?

You can expect the pump to run for approximately 2 hours with 6 AA alkaline batteries.

  • Can I pump directly into the Lansinoh® Breastmilk Storage Bags?

Unfortunately you will not be able to pump directly into the Lansinoh® Breastmilk Storage Bags because they have a double zipper closure and therefore will not fit securely on the pump.

  • How does the Lansinoh® 2in1 Electric Breast Pump compare to other available on the market?

The 2in1 Electric Breast Pump is designed as a closed system, preventing breast milk from backing up in the tubing or motor. This makes it more hygienic and safer for baby as it prevents airborne contaminants, bacteria and mold growth which can result from moisture in the tubing or pump base. Furthermore, the pump is the only one with three customisable pumping styles, offering mums optimised options for maximising her milk production and comfort.

  • What is the difference between the 2in1 Electric Breast Pump and the Single Electric Breast Pump?

The Lansinoh® 2in1 Electric Breast Pump enables mums to express from both breasts at once, saving time and it can also be used as a single electric pump. It features an LCD screen which offers very useful information regarding the selected phase, pumping style, suction level helping mums identify and easily re-select their preferred settings. The screen also displays the time spent pumping as well as the power option used (batteries or mains). The Lansinoh® 2in1 Electric Breast Pump also offers a choice between three different pumping styles and 8 different suction levels, whereas the Single Electric offers a choice between 6 different suction levels.

  • Is the Lansinoh® 2in1 Electric Breast Pump a closed system?

Yes, all our electric pumps are a closed, hygienic system. By using a specially-designed diaphragm and diaphragm cap, the pump is guaranteed to prevent milk from backing up into the tubing and into the motor unit. This is important from a hygienic perspective (condensation and/or milk in tubing can cause mould and bacteria growth and build-up) and from a perspective of understanding how important every drop of your milk is to you and your breastfed baby.

  • What if I accidentally wash the tubing — can it still be used?

Our closed system means that the tubing does not need to be washed because the expressed milk does not come into contact with the tubing. If you accidentally wash the tubing, you can disconnect the tubing from the diaphragm cap and run the pump for a few minutes to see if the air from the base eliminates any condensation that may be inside. If you notice any remaining condensation or anything that may be mould, you will need to discard the tubing and contact our customer service team to purchase a new tubing.

  • How do I know when to stop expressing?

When you are nearing the end of a pumping session, the streams of your milk will begin to slow or stop and/or your breasts will feel softer and less full. A breast is never truly “empty,” but it will be apparent with these clues that your body has released as much milk as it will at that particular session and you can stop expressing.

  • What is the warranty for the Lansinoh® 2in1 Electric Breast Pump?

The warranty for the Lansinoh® 2in1 Electric Breast Pump is one year from the date of the original purchase or receipt. If you encounter any issues during this period, please contact our customer service team who will be able to help with any troubleshooting and provide spare parts.

  • What choice of settings does the Lansinoh® Single Electric Pump offer?

The Lansinoh® Single Electric Breast Pump was designed to mimic the baby’s natural feeding pattern and includes two phases: ‘let-down’ and ‘expression’. The ‘let-down’ or ‘stimulation’ phase uses quick and short suction to initiate the milk flow, while the ‘expression’ phase maximises milk flow through longer, deeper suction. In each of the two phases, mums can also adjust the suction strength, the pump offering a choice of 6 different suction levels.

  • How can I switch between the let-down and the expression phases?

You can easily switch between the 2 phases using the ‘phase’ toggle button. The breast pump will automatically start in the ‘let-down’ phase when you switch it on and move onto the ‘expression’ phase after 2 minutes. If you wish to go back to the ‘let-down’ phase at any point during the pumping session or if you wish to move onto the ‘expression’ phase before the 2 minutes are up, you just need to push the ‘phase’ toggle button.

  • What settings will the Single Electric Breast Pump default to?

The ‘let-down’ phase lasts for two minutes, unless mum decides to switch to ‘expression’ phase prior to this by using the ‘phase’ toggle button. In each phase, the default suction strength is level 1. Mum can then increase the suction level up to 6 to suit her comfort.

  • Is there an ideal suction setting when using the Lansinoh® Single Electric Breast Pump?

Because every woman is different, there is no ideal setting that would fit all mums. We recommend that you use the + and – buttons to find the most comfortable and effective suction setting in each of the two phases – ‘let-down’ and ‘expression’.

  • Are Lansinoh® Single Electric Breast Pump parts dishwasher safe? Can I use a microwave steam bag?

Please Note: Tubing and white pump connector should never be washed or sterilised.

All parts, excluding the tubing and pump connector are dishwasher safe though we highly recommend gently hand washing the white valves and diaphragms as they are delicate and can affect the performance of the pump if damaged or torn with vigorous washing or harsh detergents. All parts except for the tubing, white pump connector and breast cushions can be steam-sterilized in a microwave bag according to the manufactures directions for use.

Please ensure all pump parts are completely dry prior to use as performance may be affected.

  • Can I use other pump brand replacement parts with the Lansinoh® Single Electric Breast Pump?

The components of the Lansinoh® Single Electric Breast Pump have been specifically developed for our pump to achieve the highest levels of quality and effectiveness. We do not recommend using another pump’s replacement parts as this might impact performance. Also, using another pump’s parts with our pump would void your warranty.

  • Does the Single Electric Breast Pump work with batteries?

Yes, you can use 6 AA batteries (not included in the pack) to power the pump, or the AC Adapter (included in the pack). We recommend using alkaline batteries only and do not recommend using rechargeable batteries. Please replace all batteries at the same time, do not mix old and new batteries. If batteries are in the pump, but your AC adaptor is in use, the pump will use the AC adaptor to power the pump.

  • Can I pump directly into the Lansinoh® Breastmilk Storage Bags?

The Lansinoh® Breastmilk Storage Bags have a double zipper closure and therefore will not fit securely on the pump. We recommend expressing into the bottle provided and transferring into your pre-sterilised bag.

  • Is the Lansinoh® Single Electric Breast Pump a closed system?

Yes, all our electric pumps are a closed, hygienic system. By using a specially-designed diaphragm and diaphragm cap, the pump is guaranteed to prevent milk from backing up into the tubing and into the motor unit. This is important from a hygienic perspective (condensation and/or milk in tubing can cause mould and bacteria growth and buildup) and from a perspective of understanding how important every drop of your milk is to you and your breastfed baby.

If you notice any remaining condensation or anything that may be mould, you will need to discard the tubing and contact our customer service team to get new tubing.

The warranty for the Lansinoh® Single Electric Breast Pump is one year from the date of the original purchase or receipt. If you encounter any issues during this period, please contact our customer service team who will be able to help with any troubleshooting and provide spare parts.

  • Where can I get replacement parts?

Should you require any replacement parts for any of the Lansinoh® Breast Pumps, please contact our Customer Service team at info@lansinoh.co.uk or call us at 0113 205 4201.

  • How does Lansinoh® HPA® Lanolin work?

Breastfeeding is a learnt skill. If you experience nipple soreness beyond a slight tenderness when your baby latches on you may need to make some adjustments so you can be comfortable and enjoy breastfeeding your baby. Uncomfortable attachment of the baby at the breast when feeding is often the cause of sore nipples – a temporary but painful condition.

Things will improve as you establish positioning and latch-on technique but in the meantime Lansinoh HPA®Lanolin can provide soothing relief to enable you to breastfeed comfortably. The application of Lansinoh HPA®Lanolin provides the perfect moist wound healing environment. Moist wound healing involves retaining the moisture already present in areolar skin, by applying a moisture barrier cream to the injured site. Internal moisture, retained within the skin, will return the skin to its normal healthy state, supple and soft rather than brittle and dry. When cracked tissue is rehydrated in this way from within, it will heal without the formation of a scab or crust.

  • Is Lansinoh Lanolin safe for my baby?

Lansinoh HPA® Lanolin does not need to be removed before breastfeeding and is the purest, safest nipple cream available.  Unlike other lanolins, we achieve this quality by using a unique refining process to selectively filter out colour and odour forming impurities.  This process, performed at low temperatures without any bleaching, is gentle and 100% natural.  Lansinoh contains no added water, no chemicals and no perfume.  Lansinoh nipple cream is 100% pure hypoallergenic HPA® lanolin and has:

    • No smell
    • No taste
    • No preservatives
    • No antioxidants or other additives
  • What type of plastic are your bags made of?

    Lansinoh breastmilk Storage Bags

  • Are your bags reusable?

Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags are designed for one-time use only.

  • How do I thaw my milk if frozen in your bags?

When thawing your milk it is important to handle it as gently as possible to preserve all the valuable nutrients. If the bags have been stored flat they will take less time to thaw. Breastmilk frozen in our bags can be thawed in the refrigerator or at room temperature. You may also place the sealed bag in a bowl of warm tap water but never use extremely hot or boiling water.

  • Can I microwave my milk while it is in your bags?

No, microwaving is never recommended for breastmilk as it destroys valuable nutrients and vitamins in the breastmilk. Additionally, it can create dangerous “hot spots” that could burn your baby when feeding.

  • Are Lansinoh® mOmma® Bottles & Teats dishwasher safe?

This sometimes happens if your breastmilk is high in lipase, the enzyme that breaks down fat in the milk.  Depending upon the levels of lipase, you may also notice this smell after you have cooled your milk in the fridge.  It is still safe for your baby, but if you are concerned, you can scald your milk to deactivate the lipase before storing.  Heat the milk until small bubbles form around the edge of the pan (but not to boiling point) and then quickly cool and freeze it.  However, once your milk has been frozen and acquired this smell, scalding will not help.

  • Why are your pads so absorbent? What is polymer?

The effectiveness of the Lansinoh pad lies in the construction of the product and the materials used in the production process. Through a unique process using heat and air, paper pulp is converted to “fluffy pulp”, which is then combined with a super absorbent polymer in the form of a powder. This mixture is sandwiched between layers of paper tissue. A non-woven fabric is then placed over the tissue to provide a stay-dry lining. This lining draws breastmilk and moisture away from the skin and into the core of the pad where it is absorbed by the super absorbent polymer, which turns into a gel. The layers of tissue surrounding the polymer further insure that the moisture is locked within the core of the paper pulp and polymer. This unique action keeps both the mother’s skin and her clothing dry.

  • My baby chewed on the pad and the gel came out – what should I do?

The material that is used to absorb the milk is a Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP).  It is similar to what is in baby diapers, in that it starts as a powder and once the milk hits it, it turns into a gel.  The SAP is non-toxic, however, it of course is not meant for ingestion.  If you do think there is a possibility that your baby did in fact ingest some of the polymer, contact your doctor and/or your local Poison Control Centre.

  • Why do you individually wrap each nursing pad? Isn’t that bad for the environment?

We individually wrap each pad because it keeps each pad clean and hygienic and allows you to toss them in your bag without worry that they will not be sanitary when you use it.

  • There was gel on my breast when I went to feed my baby, what is it?

The reason Lansinoh’s breast pads are so absorbent is that they contain a fine powder within the construction of the pad that is a super absorbent polymer (SAP).  When the milk lets down and begins to flow, the powder turns into a gel, which is the action that is keeping you dry.  If you noticed gel on your breast, it probably means that this leaked from the pad onto your skin either because the pad was torn or ripped prior to your using it or because the pad was too saturated with milk.  This could happen after a particularly big letdown or after wearing the pad for many hours. One option is changing your pad more frequently if you think that could be the cause.  Because our pads are so absorbent, it may not seem as though you are leaking a lot of milk but this is sometimes the case.

Or, it could be the case that the pad was torn or slightly ripped and the polymer gel could have gotten onto your skin.  (If that is the case, we can offer a refund but explore other options first).

  • Are these recyclable?

While there are components in the pads that are recyclable, the intact pad is not recyclable. We are working towards using more recyclable products. If you prefer to use a reusable product, you may wish to use the washable nursing pads.

  • Why are the disposable nursing pads so big?

The unique shape is to allow for full coverage for maximum discretion under clothing. Also, the wider area allows for more absorption as the Super Absorbent Polymer is spread over the entire surface of the pad.

  • Do they come in different sizes or colours?

No, they do not. Would you be interested in pads that do?  We consider feedback from our customers the most valuable information that we can ever receive and I would be glad to pass along your suggestions to our product development team.

  • Can I sleep with the pads in?

Yes, many mothers find our pads very absorbent, especially at night. We recommend changing the pads during the night if they become saturated.

  • Are they made of plastic?

The backing of the pad is tissue that has a thin layer of laminate in it. In order for the disposable pads to keep wetness in, this very thin layer of laminate must be used; otherwise, the leaking milk would get soaked in and soak out the back of the pad.

  • My pad keeps bunching in my bra, am I wearing it wrong?

If you pad is bunching, we would recommend using the sticky tabs that are located on the back of the pad to keep it in place. You may also wish to completely remove the pad before pulling your nursing bra flap down which can sometimes cause the pad to get bunched up.

  • What materials make up the Latch Assist?

The funnel shape section which actually makes contact with the breast is made of Polypropylene, the purple bulb is made of natural rubber. tt

  • What is Therapearl® 3-in1 Breast Therapy?

Therapearl® 3-in-1 Breast Therapy is non-toxic hot or cold resusable pack that can be used to help ease pain, swelling, engorgement, plugged ducts, or mastitis.  It can also be used with your breast pump whilst expressing to encourage let down and promote faster milk flow.

  • Is Therapearl® 3-in-1 Breast Therapy BPA and Phthalate-Free?

    Therapearl® 3-in 1 Breast Therapy is BPA and Phthalate-Free.

  • Does Therapearl® 3-in-1 Breast Therapy contain latex?

  • What is engorgement and how can Therapearl® 3-in-1 Breast Therapy help?

In the early stages of breastfeeding, it is not uncommon to experience swelling when your milk first comes in, this is called engorgement. Therapearl® 3-in 1 Breast Therapy can be used as a cold therapy to help treat engorgement.

  • What is mastitis and how can Therapearl® 3-in 1 Breast Therapy help?

Mastitis is an inflammation of the breast that can be caused by obstruction, infection and/or allergy. Mastitis is most common in the first 2-3 weeks of breastfeeding post-birth, but can occur at any stage of breastfeeding or lactation. Mastitis may come on abruptly, and usually affects only one breast.

Common recommendations for mastitis treatment are heat (with a warm/hot compress), massage, rest, and emptying the breast (by breastfeeding or pumping) and it sometimes requires antibiotics if symptoms are not improving in 12-24 hours, or if mum is acutely ill.

Therapearl® 3-in-1 Breast Therapy packs can be used warm/hot directly on the breast before and after nursing as a compress and in between feedings or pumping sessions for pain relief and inflammation. • What is a plugged duct and how can Therapearl® 3-in-1 Breast Therapy help?

A plugged (or blocked) duct is an area of the breast where milk flow is obstructed. The nipple pore may be blocked (often called a milk blister) or the obstruction may be further back in the milk ducts. A plugged duct usually comes on gradually and affects only one breast.

Mum will usually notice a hard lump or wedge-shaped area of engorgement in the vicinity of the plug that may feel tender, hot, swollen or look reddened. Occasionally mum will only notice localized tenderness or pain, without an obvious lump or area of engorgement. The location of the plug may shift.

A plugged duct will typically feel more painful before a feeding and less tender afterward, and the plugged area will usually feel less lumpy or smaller after nursing. Nursing on the affected side may be painful, particularly at letdown.

There are usually no systemic symptoms for a plugged duct, but a low fever (less than 101.3°F / 38.5°C) may be present.

A plugged duct can also cause:

    • Milk supply and pumping output from the affected breast may decrease temporarily. This is normal and extra nursing/pumping generally get things back to normal within a short time.
    • Occasionally a mum may express “strings” or grains of thickened milk or fatty-looking milk.
    • After a plugged duct or mastitis has resolved, it is common for the area to remain reddened or have a bruised feeling for a week or so afterwards.
    • A plugged duct can be caused by:
    • Engorgement or inadequate milk removal (due to latching problems, ineffective suck, tongue-tie or other anatomical variations, nipple pain, sleepy or distracted baby, oversupply, hurried feedings, limiting baby’s time at the breast, nipple shield use, twins or higher order multiples, blocked nipple pore, etc.)
    • Infrequent/skipped feedings (due to nipple pain, teething, pacifier overuse, busy mum, return to work, baby suddenly sleeping longer, scheduling, supplementing, abrupt weaning, etc.).
    • Pressure on the duct (from fingers, tight bra or clothing, prone sleeping, diaper bag, etc.).
    • Inflammation (from injury, bacterial/yeast infection, or allergy).
    • Stress anemia, weakened immunity

Common recommendations for plugged duct treatment are heat (with a warm/hot compress), massage, rest, and emptying the breast (by breastfeeding or pumping) and it sometimes requires antibiotics if symptoms are not improving in 12-24 hours, or if mum is acutely ill.Therapearl® 3-in-1 Breast Therapy packs can be used warm/hot directly on the breast before and after nursing as a compress and in between feedings or pumping sessions for pain relief and inflammation.

  • Why does the warmth of the Therapearl® 3-in 1 Breast Therapy help milk flow?

Studies show that a warm breast triggers let-down and the release of breastmilk than a cold breast. By heating Therapearl® and wrapping it around the breast pump cushion, the heat will encourage milk let-down and stimulate milk flow milk.

Also at risk are smokers, individuals with diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, local limb ischemia, arteriosclerosis, cold urticaria, hypertension, rheumatoid arthritis, paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria, or Raynaud’s phenomenon. A low body fat percentage, most commonly found in athletes and the elderly, also increases the risk of frostbite.
